Electromechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d)

The Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for conceiving, designing, and improving X-ray micro-CT imaging devices and related R&D setups, supporting the entire product life cycle, and maintaining technical documentation. The role involves electronics, electrical, and mechanical design, as well as cross-functional collaboration to deliver innovative solutions for advanced imaging systems.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Mechatronics (40%)
Collaborate with mechanical design and test engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, and embedded systems into electromechanical assemblies.
Support the development of motion control solutions, including motor drives and feedback systems.Participate in thermal management, packaging, and manufacturability reviews for mechatronic subsystems.
Assist in prototype builds and coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners for mechatronic components.
- Responsible for Electrical design (40%)
Design and document electrical harnesses, cable assemblies, and wiring diagrams for systems and subsystems.
Specify connectors, cable types, and routing strategies to meet mechanical and environmental constraints.Create and maintain detailed electrical schematics and bills of materials (BOMs).
Support system-level power distribution and grounding strategies.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical standards.
- Responsible for Electronics development (20%)
Design, prototype, and validate electronic circuits, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal systems.
Develop PCB schematics and layouts, ensuring compliance with performance, EMC, and safety requirements.Select components based on electrical, thermal, and cost considerations.
Collaborate with firmware/software engineers to define interfaces, test points, and integration requirements.
Support testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of electronic hardware during product validation and production.
- Responsible for General / Cross-functional
Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.Maintain documentation, revision control, and adherence to design and quality processes.
Provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle – from concept to production and field support.
Qualifications:
- Diplom/Master's degree
- Master of Science degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of professional experience
- Mechanical Design:
- Modeling and drawing of assemblies and enclosures using SolidWorks (3D/2D)
- System and subsystem architecture of mechatronics components and assemblies
- Design for manufacturability and integration of electronics and cabling
- Knowledge in basic thermal and structural analysis
- Electrical Design:
- Cable and harness design, electrical schematics, connector management, and power distribution using EPLAN
- PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Electronics Design:
- Analog/digital circuit design
- Schematic capture, PCB layout, and component management using Altium Designer
- Prototyping, testing, and validation of PCBs
- System Integration:
- Cross-disciplinary design between electronics, electrical, and mechanical domains
- System-level debugging and validation
- Familiarity with bus systems and hardware interfaces of microcontrollers
- Familiarity with C/C++, Python
- Product Lifecycle & Documentation:
- BOM creation, version control (Git, PDM/PLM systems), and design documentation to international standards
- Documentation and revision control
- Project/task management, and collaboration platforms
- Prototype assembly, test procedure development, and support for production ramp-up and troubleshooting
- General:
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards (machine safety, EMC)
- Team player with intrinsic motivation
- Excellent cooperation and communication skills
- Very good spoken and written knowledge of English
- First insights into the fields of X-ray imaging technology is a plus
